Meet Cat Explorer, the Paradigm Shift in Education
We live in an era of constant technological changes, branching several aspects in our everyday life. From reforming working habits, to challenging environmental practices, to designing new methods of the human brain learning. Using the Tech2classroom as a digital and educational venue, and having a respective set of colleagues (The Virtual Techy) lengthening the reach of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), we could not come up with a better way than to bridge our ideas and observations in a collaborative blog topic. This is when we were first introduced to the Cat Explorer, Leap’s novel creation which is set to revolutionise the educational field.
Leap Motion’s technology is based on the idea of “intuitive interaction”. In fact, this is how they distance themselves from other developers. The Cat Explorer is evidently their easiest and most intuitive merchandise. Through VR, the app allows users to fully explore all aspects of a cat’s autonomy. It incorporates the skin outline, the muscle structure, the organs, as well as its vascular skeleton form. In addition, the platform offers the “pinch me” feature, which lets the user focus on a particular section of the cat’s body, with the possibility to discover all aspects individually with detailed descriptions.
If this feels exciting, there is a lot more coming in the following years. This is just the start of what we can expect from these innovative solutions. In schools, the combination of VR and education will stimulate a higher level of interest and engagement, while effectively instigate learning. For example, from historical textbooks and articles, one can have an idea of what life was like in Ancient Rome. Nevertheless, students are still not acquiring a hands-on experience. With VR, education is prone to be more ample, tangible and foster authentic sensations; thus enhancing both the learning experience and the level of understanding.
What do you think the future of VR and education will bring to society? Do you think this will have a positive impact? Feel free to leave a comment!
